BIENVENIDOS

OUR HISTORY

How and why was the winery founded?

In 1950, the first wine cooperative in El Provencio was founded at the initiative of the farmers themselves: the Local Agricultural Cooperative Nuestra Señora del Rosario.

Four years later, seeing that the town’s private wineries and those in smaller villages did not have the capacity to store such a quantity, they decided to create the cooperative’s own winery. Thus, in 1955 construction began on the plot where the Hospedería Bodega Nuestra Señora del Rosario now stands.

A few years later, in 1964, due mainly to the increase in members, the winery was expanded. Two more tank halls were added, this time with a more functional style, while incorporating the beautiful façade we can admire today, in a traditional rural style reminiscent of a farmhouse.

CANFORRALES WINE

One of our rooms bears the name of this winery’s wine: Canforrales. It is not only the name of the wine; it is also the name of an area of El Provencio, noted for its importance in the town’s grape growing.

The cooperative winery’s first wines were not as refined as those we can enjoy today; rather, they were the result of the farmers’ and cooperative members’ drive for self-improvement, experimenting with new varieties and methods to produce fine wines.

Every step, in the personal history of many people, has been essential in bringing us to where we are today.

THE CURRENT HOSPEDERÍA

We are aware of the importance that some buildings have on a physical and economic level, but also an emotional one.

Connecting with the essence of who we are, reaffirming it, and seeking our own identity by immersing ourselves in the history of our roots. From these values comes the need to restore a place as important to El Provencio as the building of the first winery of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Cooperative, where generations of local residents would gather during harvest season to unload their crop.

In the very place where the dream of perfecting wines was born, we have now restored the building to give it a new purpose, adapted to today’s times and needs.

This is how this project came about: to create a hotel connected to the old winery building. With the spirit of the traditional La Mancha hospederías, it seeks to create a network of distinctive accommodations, with an excellent level of quality, also connected to the area’s heritage and landscape appeal.
